From Siddhanta Sarasvati Vilas das – Russia, Moscow

Dear Gurudev,
Hare Krsna! Accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
On your birthday, I would like to congratulate you and wish you that you always will remain in uninterrupted happiness from serving our dear spiritual teacher, Srila Prabhupada, and that you will have disciples for whom you will not be ashamed. I understand, that you will never blame us, but still I think that you can expect your students to develop Krsna Consciousness and progress in it.
Last year I, unfortunately, drifted apart from you, Gurudev. Forgive me for that. But, nevertheless, this did not stop me from following your preaching around the world. I always wanted to be proud of my parents and you, as the best parent, sets the example that I really want to be proud of. To be proud that you represent the values that Srila Prabhupada brought to our movement. That you understand the importance of spiritual values before material ones; understand the importance of serving the Lord, and surrendering to Him; the importance of partnership in spiritual practice and collective sankirtana. You also show how world-wide and various types of preaching can be. And that we must take responsibility for the world in which we live, and ultimately leave it to go back to our eternal original home — to God.
After twelve years of practice, unfortunately, I cannot say that I accepted all these values… But, more and more I understand that if it were not for you, many of the students (and especially me) would return to the old ways. And thank you very much for that! You give the opportunity and faith in the highest values without denying what we have now. I was always surprised by the harmony in which you can combine these values, without denying the material ethics you give us the spiritual ones… This is very rare. After all, mundane people and even preachers either deny the relationship that we have now (as we are dirty and our hearts are callous), and say that everything is false. Or vice-versa, they say to accept one’s nature (which is not pure). But I have not heard from you either of these. You just give us an example of happiness and a positive alternative — which certainly exists and is clearly better, than everything that we have here. Whether we accept it or not — it is our choice. You (and thank you for this) do not pressure us. But you give your students the opportunity to see all the blessings and the happiness that surrendered souls receive, who rely on God and entrust themselves to him.
And I also would like to thank you for the fact that I do not understand you. But I really want to. You are like a huge unread book that you can surprise me every day. When I received the initiation, it seemed to me that I knew you. But this year you unexpectedly answered to my letter, when I was in a critical situation, although you yourself were after the operation. Thus I realized that I did not understand your actions, and thank God!
It is said, that devotees in Krsna consciousness must have extraordinary thinking. Seeing your preaching (especially nowadays in quarantine), I can definitely say that you are — the most unique and versatile person. Listening to your lectures five years ago and now, one might think that these are two different lecturers… And this causes me such delight.
And it is also said, that the last leg of religion — is truthfulness. And I really want to be truthful before your eyes. This year I wanted to stop practicing, and this year I broke my vows (I did not have time to chant all my rounds). And I really hope, that I will be able to finally appreciate with a positive view the gift that you, Gurudev, gave me, so that this will not happen again. And I really wish that your students will not disappoint you in this way again.
My obeisances, Siddhanta Sarasvati Vilas das
